In two recent papers [1-2], analysis of impulse response measurements for several types of wideband channels has shown that the propagation process is essentially dominated by only a few orthogonal modes, and that a differential detector based on eigen-analysis can track there modes to improve the BER performances by 0.5 to 1.5 dB.
