System Dependent Stability of Direct Acting Relief Valves

摘要

Hydraulic pressure relief valves are known to become unstable at some operating conditions. A model is developed here that exposes instabilities in a fundamental way. It is shown that a valve can be unstable independent of the system to which it is attached. it is also shown that a stable valve can become unstable when it is placed in operation in some system. Some design relationships are developed that can help avoid potential problems during the system design process.
