The measurement of surface heat flux continues to be important in a very wide range of engineering applications. This session was intended to provide wide coverage for fundamental developments in methods of measuring surface heat flux and the papers in the session certainly meet this goal. The papers cover transient methods, optical methods, inverse heat transfer methods and the use of heat flux gasses. As such, they illustrate the wide range of techniques now available for the measurement of source heat flux and the continued ingenuity of researchers in this field in developing new methods and extending and improving existing methods.
