Oxygen inhibition studied by real time methods

In this study Real-Time Infrared Spectroscopy (RTIR) is used to investigate the oxygen inhibition in a clear lacquer formulation. In a system composed of a #alpha#-Hydroxyketone and an amine, results from RTIR experiments are compared to Photo-Differential Scanning Calorimetry (Photo-DSC) investigations and correlated to conventional testing methods. In a series of blends containing Bisacylphineoxide (BAPO) and #alpha#-Hydroxyketones (HK) the dependence of the inhibition period, the rate of polymerization and the conversion on the sample thickness, blend composition, blend concentration and on light intensity is studied in atmospheres with different oxygen contents. The effectiveness of different methods for reduction of oxygen inhibition by chemical and physical means is presented and compared.
