Adherence is one the most important properties required for UV coatings. First, special emphasis will be given to understand what is actually measured through the practical adherence tests : i.e. is the test measuring an energy of failure initiation or an energy of failure propagation or a combination of both? To increase adherence on polymeric substrates, effort must be focussed on coating / surface interactions and/or viscoelastic properties of the film. The interpenetrating polymer network approach is one of the possibility to reach the dilemma good adherence/good hardness on plastic substrates.
