The experimental investibation reported herein involved 4-inch concrete cubes that were tested cyclically in biaxial compression under varying stress-to-strength ratios. A detailed study of the experimental results forms the basis for an improved understanding of the micromechanical mechanisms that control this complex material behavior. This understanding is of invaluable assistance in the development of damage mechanics-based constitutive models that are capable of reproducing such behavior.
