Study on mechanism of dissipation and scour by free jets - estimation of the scour depth downstream of the Three Gorge spillway

摘要

The mechanism of scour by free jets on rocky river beds was studied by use of the model for transient flows and the theory of random vibration .Then, Based on the theoretical study,the predicting formulae for the equilibrium scour depth and the development of scour depth were derived ,with which the equilibrium scour depths downstream of the Three Gorge spillway were estimated.Finally,scouring experiments were carried out by the enlarged rock block method in the Three Gorge spillway model.lt was shown that the experimental results are a good agreement with the predicted values.
