Personal rapid transit (prt) prt 2000~(TM)

Building on the initial concepts and preliminary design efforts by others~1 and at Raytheon over the last 25 years, Raytheon developed the PRT 2000~(TM), a fully automated Personal Rapid Transit system, providing non-stop, origin-todestination travel in vehicles that carry up to four people on an elevated, dedicated right-of-way guideway. A full scale operational demonstration system is nearing completion at the Raytheon facility in Marlborough, Massachusetts in cooperation with the Northeastern Illinois Regional Transportation Authority (RTA). The RTA's initial revenue system deployment is planned for Rosemont, a Chicago suburb. The beneficial features of PRT 2000~(TM) complement other modes and will make intermodal public transportation more effective in the decades to come. Analyses indicate that PRT 2000~(TM) can be built and operated at a cost lower than many alternative transit modes, possibly resulting in minimum or the elimination of subsidies. Based on independent analysis, PRT has the potential to attract people from their automobiles into public transit which, of course, has many sociological, economical, and environmental benefits.
