The self-injection switches a self-pulsed F-P LD from multi-mode to single mode emission, with a side-mode suppression up to 23 dB. Under self-injection, the timing jitter drops from 54 ps down to measurement limited 3 ps. Wavelength tunability of 48 nm and repetition rates between 0.6 and 5.1 GHz are accessible.
