Large scale high performance computers are used extensively within the Aerospace Industry to perform complex numerical calculations required for design and development, and to provide the platforms for extensive, real time simulation. Although the machines in this class are often thought of as exotic "glass house" engines, the architectures employed in their realization eventually find their way into embedded aerospace and onboard systems that require large computational throughput. Consequently, trends and directions in today's "glass house" high performance computing systems influence not only the Aerospace design and simulation environment, but tomorrow's embedded and onboard procesxor solutions.
