Pilot studies on a semi-industrial scale using the combined oxidation processes O_3/UV, H_2O_2/UV and O_3/H_2O_2 with different chlorinated hydrocarbon (CHC) concentrations in ground water show that, under favorable conditions, any final concentration of the total CHC can be obtained after the oxidation. In the selected projects the total load of CHC in the raw water ranges between 0.1 and 30 mg/l . The demand for oxidants and UV energy for different degrees of decomposition depends on the chlorinated hydrocarbon concentration in the raw water, the structure of the CHC and the water quality. Unsaturated CHC can be oxidized more easily than saturated CHC.
