The effects of types and concentrations of low-profile additives (LPA) on the volume shrinkage in the cure of unsaturated polyester (UP) resins at 110°C were investigated. By an integrated approach of static phase characteristics for ternary styrene-UP-LPA systems at 25°C, morphologies of the finally cured samples at 110 °C, and volume change data during the cure at 110°C, factors which determine the overall volume change after the cure have been explained.
