This article presents an analysis of the buckling behavior of tubulars in inclined and horizontal wellbores. The expressions for buckling initiation and helical buckling are reviewed and analyzed. The effect of torque on the buckling process is considered. A post buckling analysis is presented and the derivation for the critical force for the unloading situation is also included in the paper. Numerical examples using tubulars of common use in the oil industry are presented at the end of the paper.
