Reservoir characterization by stochastic methods allows to deal with complex spatial facies distributions and provide predictions of reservoir internal architecture between wells. Here, a stochastic description is developed for a carbonate reservoir that possesses a complex internal architecture with significant variations in reservoir properties and random facies spatial distribution. The stochastic characterization starts with conditional simulation of the spatial distributionof the reservoir facies and lithologies followed by estimationof the properties, constrained to the simulated facies geometry. Validationof the realizations is obtained through the inforamtion gathered from new wells. The generated stochastic realization is used to define the optimum trajectories of the planned horizontal wells.
