Inside the state of Bahrain the transportation of people and goods is only by the ground vehicles. In 1993, there were 154,240 vehicles registered and in use on the roads of which 74.8% were private cars; one for every five persons. Petroleum is the only fuel used in the transportation sector, namely gasoline and diesel. As regards this year, the total annual consumption of both fuels has reached 500 million litres. For the last ten years, i.e. 1984-1993, the annual rate of fuel consumption by the transportation sector has increased by 43.8% while the number of vehicles, for the same period, increased by 29.5%, and the total number of population has increased by 44%.Analyzing the results we noticed that the cars were usually running in the acceleration mode which resulted in a big fuel consumption and of course a high pollution level. To avoid that the electric cars may be used, Bahrain will also be the best environment for use them.
