This paper presents the results of a comprehensive technology assessment study conducted to determine the state-of-the-art in stationary gas turbine combustors' technology with particular emphasis on their emissions. After a brief review of the existing and future gas turbine emission standards, a short presentation of the mechanisms of NOx formation is given, followed by a presentation of the currently available NOx control technologies. The cost of implementing each technology separately or in combination with others is discussed. The paper concludes with a presentation of emerging technologies for further emissions reductions toward an ultra-low emissions gas turbine combustor.
