According to a theoretical prediction, ion Bernstein wave (IBW) current drive in a tokamak can be produced if a single-loop IBW antenna is located above or below the equatorial plane of the plasma column. In the TO-2 experiments, certain evidence of the IBW current drive effect was observed. The IBW power injection into the plasma caused variations of the loop voltage and other plasma parameters. In agreement with theory, the character of these variations depended on the direction of the vertical displacement of the plasma column with respect to the IBW antenna.
