A sol-gel method has been employed in preparation of MoO_3 and its film The molecular precursor used in sol-gel process is MoOCl_2(OPr~n)_2 which was prepared by reaction between MoOCl_4 and n-C_3H_7OH. MoOCU was obtained by refluxing MoO_3 powder and SOCl_2. The structures of xerogel and MoO_3 were studied by IR and XRD patterns. At 300°C, the amorphous xerogel begins to convert to crystalline MoO_3. The main crystalline is MoO_3 and a little Mo_9O_(16) is co-crystallized when xerogel is heated up to 500°C MoO_3 film is also obtained by dip-coating method. The proper heating condition is at 300°C for 5 min. In the circumstances, the film is amorphous and light blue. The thickness and transmission of films are detected.
