Ultrafine powders in the system Na_2O-B_2O_3-SiO_2 was prepared by sol-gel process and the effects of processing parameters on the synthesis of sol-gel were investigated. The porous glass was made of ultrafine powders and its properties and application in fiber-optic chemical sensing were studied.
