ATM is designed to support applications that have widely diverse statistical characteristics and QoS requirements.Therefore,conventional resource management scheme cannot be adopted and a new resource management scheme supporting such diverse applications is required. In this paper,we propose a dynamic resource allocation algorithm for the A TM networks,which not only independently guarantees the QoS requirement of each traffic class but also leads to a more efficient and fair usage of network resources.This is achieved by distinguishing output buffers in traffic classes (which we define based on QoS and statistical characteristics of the traffics.) and by dynamically reallocating bandwidth to each traffic class according to network load condition(i.e.fluctuation of the number of calls belonging to each class).As a result of varying reallocating period in case of heavy load and low load condition in simulation,we could certify that proposed algorithm guaranteed various QoS of each class and used the network resources effectively and fairly among classes.
