ATM replicated banyan switches under bursty traffic: a simulation study

摘要

A simulation study of replicated banyan switches for Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) applications is here presented for switch performance evaluation under bursty traffic. A main distinction is made between local and transit exchange environments in order to suggest the appropriate design criteria to meet ATM operating and performance requirements. Examples of switch dimensioning are given and the exploitation of the available design freedom degrees is suitably discussed.
