Protection mechanisms in ATM networks

摘要

This piper introduces into protection mechanisms of SDH and ATM networks. It gives an overview of ATM protection mechanisms with a dynamic establishment of standby paths (rerouting and self-healing mechanisms) and with pre-established standby paths (protection switching). A new protection switching mechanism is presented to improve quality of service values with an efficient use of total network spare capacity. The interaction of protection switching mechanisms of the SDH layer and the ATM layer is discussed.
