In the last few years several steps have been made inbroadband data communication field. Experimenting ATM technology seems to be the orientation of telecom publicoperators and the ATM field trials and pilots deployed all overthe world show this effort.On the other hand the market is pushing the demand for high-speed data services and, from this point of view, LAN interconnection for corporate networking is currently the leading request.The "Virtual Path service" can be an opportunity of trialling the ATM technique and to provide an advanced solution for LAN interconnection market demand.The paper has the aim to analyse the main steps for the provision of this new service: specification, design and validation. The first part deals with the service specifications reviewing the main choices and the interoperability issues. The following of the paper deals with the design phase. It requires a implementation specification that it must be compared with the available equipment features . The last part is dedicate to the validation phase before the service introduction.
