摘要

In this paper we present an efficierlt Terminal Adapter for the Broadband Integrated Services Digital Network(BISDN).The adapter perfoFins in the Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM)environment.It is optimized for efficient transfer of bulk data,while maintaining simplicity and Iransparency.The adapter has been designed in conformance to the evolving standards.MoTeover,it's flexible design supports future extensions and protocol alternations.The architecture of the adapter incorporates into a single component,the ATM layer and the Segmentation And Reassembly Sublayer functions for connection oriented data transfer.The ADTA can handle data at full rate(155 Mbits/sec on the ATM I/F).while intmducing constant protocol overhead delay.Further,the ADTA utilizes emcienfly the available buffer irrespectively of the siza of the transferred data unit.
