Fundamental frame structures for photonic version of Synchronous Optical Network (SONET)are investigated.Simple logical functions and low-power consumptions are required for photonic frame processing. Two types of frame structures are developed to meet these requirements:one that utilizes coding rule violations, and the other that employs convolutional framing. The former and the latter are suitable for octet-and bit-wise multiplexing, respectively.Typical examples are studied.Application to photonic Interconnect is also discussed.
