"The Personal Computer Memory Card International Association (PCMCIA) was formed with the goal of promoting inter-changeability of Integrated Circuit Cards (IC Cards) among a variety of computer and other electronic products. Both data storage ("Memory") and peripheral expansion ("I/O") card types are defined by this standard.Many implementations will permit either type of 68-pin card to operate in the same slot. This standard governs a 68-pin interchange or I/O type card only. Cards compliant with this standard are referred to as PC Cards."There are five variations of cards and two keying configurations currently specified or recommended by PCMCIA.
