Abstract: Battelle is under contract to design an improved Radar Electro-Optical Display Set for the F- 16A/B and F-16C/D aircraft. This new equipment consists of two units: the Electronics Unit (EU) and the Display Unit (DU). It is designed to be a form fit function replacement for the Indicator Unit and EU in the current F-16A/B aircraft and the Multi-Function Display and Programmable Display Generator in the F-16C/D aircraft. This paper will discuss the improved REO Display Set and specifically address the trade-offs that resulted in the selection of a ruggedized Commercial Off The Shelf LCD rather than a custom LCD for installation in the new DU.!9
