Dissolved ozone residuals and ozonation by-products not only vary as a function of ozone dose, contact time, and water quality characteristics, but also with reactor (Contactor) type and mode of application (batch, continuous-flow). To date, most models have been based on labroatory data obtained under batch conditions, and may be less accurate in simulating data generated during continuous-flow pilot or full scale operation. Batch reactors have the advantage of small instrumentation cost and flexibility of operation; hence, they are well suited to simulate the decomposition of ozone and production of by-products such as bromate using small volumes of water.
