The City of Tuscon, Arizona recently completed construction on a 1 50 million gallon per day (mgd) water treatment plant (WTP). The WTP utilizes direct filtration with preozonation for primary disinfection and other process enhancements. The ozone contact basins were designed to maximize ozone transfer and minimize s hort circuiting through the use of multiple baffles and countercurrent ozone application. Tracer tests were performed to determine the effective contact time through the basins at a variety of operating conditions.
