The Manasquan Water Treatment Plant is an advanced drinking water treatment plant employing perozonation, coagulation/filtration, and post GAC contactors. The plant has producted excellent drinking water using ozonation. The plant has operated with either river or eservior raw water which have s ignificantly different water quality and has performed for periods without ozonation. River water tends to be easier to treat and results in better finished water quality. Qozonation tends to have little direct impact on THMFP levels, but the THMFP is more easily removed by subsequent treatment. TOC removal modifications to the ozone generator and air driers to allow a 10:1 turndown and consistently proeduce-90 deg to -120 deg F dewpoint air. The successful operation of the ozonation equipment has contributed sinificantly to the plant's excellent performance. The use of ozonation consistently produces a water with low tastes and odors, no iron or manganses, and low THM levels, and greatly sim;lifies plant operations.
