Abstract: the photofragment ion imaging technique toinvestigate the 266 nm photodissociation dynamics ofhydrogen iodide. We show the quantitative features ofion imaging by comparing determinations ofphotofragment recoil velocity distributions, productbranching ratios and the HI bond dissociation energywith previously published results. Excellent agreementwith previous experimental and theoretical results isobtained. The H atoms produced from this process arethen used as reactants in the reaction of H $PLU HI andH $PLU D$-2$/. Imaging techniques are used to measurethe velocity distributions of the products of thesereactions. !43
