Measurement of soot volume fraction is a complicated process that poses many challenges. A work in progress that uses an optical passive soot volume fraction and temperature measurement method is presented. The Spectral Soot Emission method measures line of sight radiation emitted by soot at range of wavelength. Abel three point inversion method is used to obtain local field properties which allow calculation of the temperature and soot volume fraction. The method is tested on co-flowing annular laminar diffusion flame. The results are in qualitative agreement with the literature. Future work goals of using the experimental system for characterizing of soot emissions of surrogates for Jet A-1 fuel is presented.
