Within the last ten to fifteen years several heavy magnesium parts have been assembled in passenger cars, such as gear box housings and crank cases [1, 2]. Reasons are the lately developed new heat resistant alloys and the increasing responsibility of automotive manufacturers to reduce the vehicles weight and thereby CO2 emissions. The latter is pushed by international legislation [3, 4]. The rising quantity of magnesium in automobiles will result in an increasing amount of so called post consumer scrap at the end of the vehicles life.
