Most medical physicists and biomedical engineers think of research in terms of the following paradigm: Conducting research leads to the discovery of new information. When this new information is placed in the context of what is already known through scientific publications and presentations of others, it constitutes new knowledge. This new knowledge becomes the subject of one or more scientific publications. These publications enhance the prospects of the physicist or engineer for new and continued research funding.
