After a brief presentation of the Jules Horowitz Material Test Reactor (JHR), this paper is focused onLOCA (Loss of Coolant Accidents) type tests under studies. It describes a fuel irradiation device designfulfilling these needs and solutions to solve the key technological issues such as:Dedicated irradiation devices including internal heating component, quick transfer of fluids (water and gases) with short half life fission product measurements by sampling, Test driving using displacement systems,Instrumentation implementation for rod behavior control (ballooning ,failure),Non destructive examinations for sample quick characterization after sequence and with a minimum handling (gamma spectrometry, neutron imaging system, X rays tomography), Tight transfer, sample recovery and conditioning thanks to the JHR alpha cell. The present proposal, considered as a preliminary design is opened to evolutions depending on technicalneeds and optimizations in connection with the requests of future programs.The Jules Horowitz Reactor is a major research infrastructure in support of the international community tosolve LOCA related issues. As needs in the fuel safety studies domain will likely evolve in the coming years, theJHR facility integrates a high flexibility to take into account these evolutions.
