The concrete deterioration worldwide has motivated the use of externally bonded Fiber-Reinforced Polymer (FRP) composites instead of steel for structural repair and rehabilitation. FRP composite materials in the form of fabrics and laminates have been externally bonded to concrete structures to increase structural capacity and provide longer service-life. The application of this technology in practice has been successful, providing great worldwide benefits to society. This paper provides a concise comprehensive review of various aspects of the application of FRP fabrics for repair and rehabilitation of concrete structures, including applicable situations for fiber-wrap technology; implementation of technology for concrete repair by industry; effectiveness, life-span and durability in relation to concrete deterioration; cost-effectiveness of the technology; and limitations for application of the technology. Recommendations are given for characterization of interface bond strength and integrity, including testing methods, data reduction and interpretation techniques, durability protocols for environmental exposure, and possible long-term prediction models for service-life performance.
