Verification of Input to Output ratio of a flexure based Nanoconverter

The Nanoconverter [1] is used in two beam lines of the Swiss Light Source synchrotron (SLS) at the Paul Scherrer Institut (PSI). One is TOMCAT (Tomographic Microscopy Radiology Experiment, M. Stampanoni), the other cSXAS (Coherent Small Angle X- ray Scattering, F. Pfeiffer). There, the Nanoconverter is used to move gratings with pitches of a few microns. For some experiments the grating has to be moved during x- ray exposure with an accuracy of 20 nanometers over a typical range of 30 microns. One year ago, S. Henein presented the Nanoconverter at the Euspen International Conference in Bremen. In his abstract, it was said, that a "large constant reduction factor ... typically between 20 and 1000" can be achieved. Mr. Henein also mentioned in his abstract, that the design has a fixed reduction ratio of 100. In the meantime 2 of the 4 built Nanoconverter are in use in the experiments very satisfactory. The others were used to verify the reduction factor and the absolute movement of the output, based on the input movement of the stepper motor.
