Recent work on the problem of damage location used a network of so-called novelty indices in order to signal the presence of damage at one level, and further, to indicate its position. The study in question considered a framework structure and based the analysis on transmissibility functions for each member of the framework. The current study aims to extend this work from the fundamentally discrete framework to a more complex, continuous structure. The approach is demonstrated on a simple Finite Element model of a plate structure and an attempt is made to identify which of 18 possible locations contain the damage.
