In this paper, gain improvement methods based on lens and metamaterial inspired structures are investigated for the HB100 X-band radar. All proposed structures are implemented using low-cost and easy-to-fabricate 3D printing technology. The full-wave EM simulation shows gain improvement of 7.1 dB, 5.4 dB, and 5.5 dB using a hyperbolic lens, a hemispherical lens, and parallel dielectric plate, respectively, for both elevation and azimuth directions at 10.525 GHz.
