Use of Dispersion Compensating Fibers (DCFs) is the most practical technique for compensation of the dispersion and dispersion slope of single mode fibers (SMFs) in the 1.55 mu m band/1/. Recently, a large Aeff type of DCF modules is necessary for the high capacity WDM transmission, because it needs the low non-linearity. And non-zero dispersion shifted fibers (NZ-DSFs) recently have been actively introduced to WDM transmission. In order to increase WDM signal schannels or each channel bit rate, the dispersion slope of the NZ-DSF should be compensated as well. This requires a high ratio of dispersion slope to dispersion (RDS) type of DCF modules only for NZ-DSFs because of the difference of the RDS of SMFs.
