This paper presents a new fuzzy monitoring process which improves the active safety aspect by providing a Driver Aid System or "copilote" in typical cases of dangerous vehicle behaviour. In is based on fault diagnosis using the computatin of a residue generated with a comparison between models and real data. Then, a fuzzy logic system exploits these results which depend on a good estimation of the longitudinal velocity. To make a cheap product an advanced real time fuzzy estimator of the longitudinal velocity, covering critical situatins, is developed. Finally, the monitoring process detects some critical situations and provides potential indicators by giving the "danger quotient" of the situation detected.
