With the development of ever-more sophisticated substrates, a continuing need to improve substrate finishcharacteristics and the trend towards thinner and thinner materials and coatings, the quality of roller coverings usedin film and sheet extrusion processes has never been more important than it is today. Compounded with the push toincrease productivity and lower overall costs, extruders are seeking roller technologies that enhance both quality andperformance.Advancements in elastomeric and hard-coat roller covering technologies have been made which help extruders meetthese challenges. Improvements in covering materials, design, manufacturing and finishing techniques allowextruders to consistently achieve superior uniformity and clarity with fewer defects; run at faster speeds; andsignificantly reduce downtime for roller change-outs.This presentation addresses roller-related challenges and state-of-the-industry solutions in extrusion of film andsheet, extrusion coating and laminating and blown-film processes. The focus will be on key roller positions withinthese processes.
