Can Digital Simulations of People Improve Workspace Design?

Fast, high quality comptuer graphics now provide the capability to render lifelike human images within a variety of Computer Aided Workplace Design programs. This panel explores the use of this emerging technology through four different case studies. A particular emphasis is placed on providing a critical review of how well existing human simulation tools assisted the designer in acheiving specific design goals. The expert panelists attempt to present a clear articulation and illustration of those human simulation features which were best simulated and used in each case, and then recommend where research and software development is needed to improve future predictions fo human features to solve other product and manufacturing process design problems in a CAD environment.
