Inverse problem methodology in methematical modeling and experiemntal simulation

The paper is concerned with a consideration of common, system approach to mathematical modeling and experimental studies of physical processes and iwth engineering systems design and testing. The approach is based on using the solution of inverse problems. It allows to establish a correct correspondence between mathematical modeling and experiementation as well as to improve their effectiveness. Herein are the following main problems: firstly, the development of a unified methodology both for mathematical model identification and for technical system diagnostics, which is essential int he process of design and testing or in physical process research; secondly, the construction of a hierarchical set of interconnected mathematical models and methods to use them adequately at different stages of research and development while designign and verifying a new enginering object; thirdly, the derivation of a valid procedure for experiments and tests performing and experimental data processing in order to increase the amount of valuable experimental information and, accordingly, reduce the cost. A corresponding combination of mathematical modeling and testing is considered as an example of implementation of this methodology applicable to the design and verification of the thermal protection system for Russian Buran orbiter.
