A small-scale test in which the detonation products of a small non-ideal explosive charge are confined in a closed cylinder completely filled with water is introduced. A comparison between the behavior of ideal and non-ideal explosives in the test is presented. Numerical simulations of the test show the feasibility of calculating the rate of the slow reactions from the measured pressure history and final deformation of the cylinder walls using a simple thermodynamic system anlaysis that only includes the detonation products and the water.
