Collisions of slow protons with neutral and charged closed-shell metal clusters

We present a comparative study of H~++Na_(20) and H~++Na_(21) collisions at low velocities. We have found that excitation cross sections are comparable in both cases, while, as expected, capture cross sections are substantially sampller for H~++Na_(21)~+. From the calculated energy deposits, we conclude that cluster fragmentation produced after the collision is significantly different in both cases.
