In this paper, a genetic algorithm (GA) based method to determinethe optimal siting of flexible AC transmission system (FACTS) controlleris proposed. Optimal siting of FACTS device refers to the best placementof a selected FACTS device in the system with the consideration ofeconomics and cost effectiveness. The guidelines on how to determine theproper location of FACTS device are also discussed. The proposedapproach is based on a simple 4-bus power system. The results arepresented to show the feasibility and practicality of thisapproach
