摘要

A large number of ancient five-storied pagoda in Japan has survived strong earthquakes over centuries, proving its structural advantage. Typical structure of pagoda, consisted of self-supporting outer tower and inner core post, yields friction and collision between outer and inner structures. Similar mechanism can be applied to modern buildings exited by earthquakes or strong wind to absorb response energy efficiently.
