Theoretical research on active TMD (A-TMD) control for seismic responses of tall buildings is performed in term of the complete-feedback active control algorithm proposed recently, and inherently time-delay effect of control force is considered in the process of on-line control. The equations of motion of the coupled system of a tall building and an A-TMD installed at the top of the building is derived and the complete-feedback control algorithm is represented with time-delay of control force. The influence of different forms of feedback and different values of time-delay on the control effect of A-TMD control for a 14-story frame building excited by El-Centro (NS, 1940) earthquake is numerically simulated, and the results show that, by comparing with the part-feedback control, the complete-feedback control presents that not only the displacement and velocity responses of the structure are more effectively reduced, but also the acceleration responses of the structure is significantly suppressed, and a larger value of time-delay of control force may remarkably affect the control effect of active TMD control, even cause the controlled structure unstable seriously.
