To economically meet the increasing demand for greater processingcapability and reliability in information processing systems, theauthors have developed a processor-to-processor communications unit(PCI) using a 100 Mb/s optical token ring. They describe a model forevaluating the performance of data transmissions carried over the PCIs,introduce the equations corresponding to the model, and presentevaluation results obtained through actual measurements of PCIperformance. Based on these results, they confirm the evaluation modelcan effectively estimate data transmission over the PCIs
